Texworld USA
Javits Convention Center
3 – 5 February, 2009

Strong Industry Buzz Surrounds Texworld USA

New Year Offers New Opportunities for Fabric Buyers

Leading textile buyers and manufacturers will be heading to Texworld USA, running February 3-5 at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

Now in its sixth edition, Texworld USA will once again provide attendees with the opportunity to meet face-to-face with leading fabric manufacturers and to see – and touch – their latest offerings.

New Year – New Opportunities
With the New Year, many designers and buyers are looking for new and innovative fabrics that will address today’s value- and style-conscious consumer and are eagerly anticipating the February show.

These are just a sampling of some of the key companies who have already registered to attend Texworld USA: Abercrombie & Fitch, Alexander Wang, Armani Exchange, BCBG Max Azria, Calvin Klein, David’s Bridal, DKNY, G-III, GAP, JCPenney, Kenneth Cole, Levi’s, Liz Claiborne, Macy’s, Mother’s Work, OshKosh B’Gosh, Perry Ellis, Reebok, Sak’s Fifth Avenue, Sean John, Tory Burch, Urban Outfitters, Victoria’s Secret and Weatherproof Garment Co.

As Michele Bohbot, head designer of Bisou Bisou, noted, “The economic crisis provides a great opportunity to reinvent ourselves and excite customers by creating timeless, must-have pieces. At Texworld USA, I have the opportunity to find new fabrications, explore the latest prints, trends and color directions, and find out what’s going on in the market from major manufacturers.”

Priscella Shum, senior women’s outerwear designer at Sean John, will be looking for innovative fashion fabrics at Texworld USA. “The show puts all the forecasting and trend information in one place so I can easily get the fabric manufacturers’ perspective, “Shum said. “The show is a good opportunity to see the vendors you’ve been talking and e-mailing with and to network and meet new people. And the show staff is very helpful and really caters to attendees,” she added.

Today’s price-conscious consumers are still looking for great style, according to Carol Gordon, senior trim developer at Target. “Even in this tough economy, I’m still seeing lots of embellishments,” Gordon said. “I go to Texworld USA to see the new suppliers for trim – especially lace – and to be inspired by the latest trends in fabrics and finishes. It’s a very practical show for us – I can visit many of the suppliers we work with on the show floor. Our designers spend more time at Texworld USA than at other shows.”

Texworld USA Attracts Buyers from Coast to Coast and Canada
Bisou Bisou and other participating companies such as BCBG and Guess? travel from California to attend the show, along with brands based in the Southeastern U.S. and Canadian manufacturing centers Toronto and Montreal.

“Texworld USA lets us see the whole market in a short period of time and provides an ideal chance to talk with our suppliers face-to-face, rather than via e-mail,” said David Simons, manager, ladies outerwear division of Utex Fashion Group in Montreal, Canada. “This year, we’re very interested in fabric – we think fabric will be more important than shape. The timing of Texworld USA is a big advantage – it gives us a head start on ordering for the upcoming season.”

Fashion and Function
Texworld USA offers buyers the chance to see not only the latest in textile fashions, but also in performance. “For our brands and customers, we’ll be looking for lightweight, tightly constructed fabrics with performance attributes like anti-microbial and anti-UV finishes. At Texworld USA, the people at the booths are extremely experienced in the technical aspects of fabrics,” said Tony Galvao, senior vice president, product development for Block Corporation. “We do shirts, pants, outerwear, sweaters, swimwear, workwear and performance apparel, and I’ll find product for each of these categories. I have a legitimate chance to do business with almost everyone presenting at the show.”

Lenzing Innovation
Presented in cooperation with Lenzing Innovation, Texworld USA continues to provide a business platform offering a wide array of highly innovative and creative fabrics with an excellent price/quality relationship. Lenzing Fibers and Lenzing Innovation will once again sponsor and organize the seminar program, which brings together some of the industry’s leading organizations to share the latest information on trends, product development, technology and operations.
