January Show Flourishes: 10% Increase in Exhibitors and 22% Increase in Attendance

The twelfth edition of Texworld USA showcased 162 exhibitors from 14 countries with a 10.8% increase over January 2011. Exhibitors also benefited from a double digit increase in attendance, with a total of 3,363 verified attendees. Compared to January 2011, this reflects an increase of 22%.

Traffic on the show floor was steady, with Monday surprising organizers as the busiest day, registering the highest attendance for an opening day in the history of Texworld USA.

Texworld USA exhibitor Chad Schofield, with Origin Africa emphasized location as a strong point of the show commenting that “Texworld USA is in good proximenity to the garment district. In New York City we can meet with a company’s entire design team, as opposed shows located in other regions where we may only get to meet one person from a design team.”

Technology as Design at the Forefront of Seminars
A full house turned out for the Dimensions in Denim panel. The seminar focused on sustainability and jean production, offering a variety of ideas and innovations for denim devotees. The panel consisted of Louis Gerin, 2G2L Fashion Design & Consulting; Manon Clavel, USA Regional Manager, Jeanologia; Ramon Rios Quintana, Commerical Manager, Santanderina; and Jordi Ballus, Product Manager, Santanderina. Innovations as well as tried and true design and finishing techniques were discussed. Jeanologia’s Manon Clavel emphasized that “it does not cost more to produce responsibly”, highlighting Jeanlogia’s waterless processes as an example.

Dr. Sabine Seymor presented on the topic of Functional Aesthetics: Commercial Fashion with Technology. Heat-sensitive inks, thermal inks and shape-changing structures were among the developments discussed. Dr. Seymor closed with a demonstration of light-sensitive inks, inspiring designers and product development professionals who had many questions regarding when these techniques would be available for production.

Decision makers from companies such as J.Crew, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, Marc Jacobs, GAP, Converse, Urban Outfitters and NEXT UK were in attendance. Regular Texworld USA attendee Lisa Specker, Victoria’s Secret Direct Production Textile Technologist, remarked that “I was looking for women’s new and novelty fabrics and am happy with what I found”.
